PAX East – Boston!

March 9, 2011

I haven’t had a lot of time to update my gaming blog with well..game stuff. Nor my experiences at the Game Developer Conference (GDC). My company, Heatwave Interactive did not have a booth, but we did take numerous press meetings, business meetings and such. Oh yes, we also threw an AMAZING Toga party to promote our MMORPG, Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising.

But I’m not here to talk about GDC. I want to talk about PAX East in Boston!
I’m leaving Austin tomorrow morning to attend my favorite geek gaming culture convention. Whilst I am very much a table top gamer (board/card games, pen & paper RPGs and such), PAX is really all about gamers and the gamer geek culture surrounding it. I love that no matter your age or gender, by being there, everyone knows you are a gamer. I’ve had the best conversations at PAX Prime with people from all walks of life, just enjoying games and silly memes. Nothing quite like walking the halls and having someone with a boom box crank up Caramelldansen and have a bunch of nerds start dancing along. Great moments where Paul & Storm and Wil Wheaton surprise the audience with their rendition of the Trololo Song.

Nothing beats getting hugged and some cookie stealing from the Steve Jackson Games munchkin guy STOP TRYING TO STEAL MY COOKIES. Especially, tasty delicious nommy cookies from The Cookie Brigade. Nothing quite like seeing numerous people wearing the Three Wolf Moon shirt, the Three Keyboard Cat Moon shirt and the Three Ewok “That’s no moon” Deathstar shirt, tying numerous memes & geek references together. This is why I love PAX.

All that being said, that’s not why I am attending PAX! I’m representing my company and our joint contest with Beckett Massive Online Gamer! We’re kicking off our Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising Correspondent Contest. One lucky person will get to fly to Austin to meet our team and cover Gods & Heroes for Massive Online Gamer for a YEAR. And get paid to do it!

If you want to talk to me about it, or just say hello, you can drop by the Beckett Media booth #136. I’ll be handing out beta keys and doing interviews with some podcast/blogger folks and dressing people up in togas for fun games!

You can follow my shennanigans on my personal Twitter feed and the official Gods & Heroes feed.
